31/05/2012 – Haywards Heath to Cuckfield and back via Gander Hill

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

Did the usual ride to Cuckfield, returning on the bypass before crossing town, descending Oathall and going over Gander Hill.

This  run is a good workout to keep up the fitness levels although an eyeful of sweat don’t half sting 🙂

30/05/2012 – Road testing Iren’s Bike

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

Iren has had an issue with a lack of pressure in her tyres, so pumped up with car pump then roadtested the bike.

I did a short loop just to get a feel for the bike.

I rode up Perrymount Road, across town, down Oathall and then back via Sydney Road and  the first bit of Perrymount Road

Ah well it was good to get 30 miles covered today, the most I have done 🙂

30/05/2012 – West Grinstead to Shoreham Airport and back the rematch!

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

Yep did it again, this time with an ickle detour that added a bit to the ride.

I repeated this run dating back from the 25/03/2012 to see how the fitness was doing, and all I can say is that there is an improvment 🙂

The first leg down to Partridge Green was a game of ‘dodge the bunny’ – the blighters are everywhere!

Nothing else to note on the way down until I got to Wyckham Farm where the descent to Bramber begins – the trail is dry and dusty which makes you a bit twitchy as falling off wearing shorts might be an ouch !

Once  past the farm the track improved and I was soon past the castle, across the A283, and on my way to the airport 🙂

At the airport instead of just turning round I rode through the airport, onto the A259 and then through Shoreham back  to the track just south of the flyover.

The haul up by the castle at Bramber & Wyckham farm seemed easier and I was soon back on level ground heading for Henfield.

Once clear of Henfield I headed back for West Grinstead, keeping up a decent pace but by now feeling the effects of the ride in the sun 24+ degrees celcius is lovely and warmif you are not pedalling for hours.

Back at West Grinstead life got a bit painful, I removed the bike hat and the sweat got in my eyes – it don’t half sting 🙁

Overall a good ride and a big improvement on the first ride 🙂

I will apologise in advance for the 3 images it takes to get the route in.

28/05/2012 – A wander around Chertsey

Monday, May 28th, 2012

Took a different stroll around Chertsey today.

I started by walking to near where the Plaza used to be, then strolled down Station Road,

Eventually I rejoined Eastworth Road before picking up the path to Addlestone.

I cross the railway tracks and walked to the motorway before returning and finishing the amble by the river

27/05/2012 – A walk to Cuckfield and back

Sunday, May 27th, 2012

Walked to Cuckfield and back with Iren.

Took a wander in the hot sun to Cuckfield and back, breaking the journey in the village as we grabbed some cold drinks for the walk back.

Yet again stupid (me) forgot Lucazade is fizzy, and got a shower when I opened it 1/2 mile further on – who the hell thought of making a fizzy energy drink likely to be drunk whilst exercising grrrrrrrrrrrr

It’s steaming hot out there and not the best thing for exercising.

27/05/2012 – Haywards Heath to Cuckfield and back via Gander Hill

Sunday, May 27th, 2012

Yep, did it again, this time on the old bike to gain a comparison between them.

Same route etc, but this time was ignored by the bloody traffic lights again so had to get off and use pedestrian crossings at the top of the Broadway.

The ride felt good, but boy was I melting at the end.

Since the service the gears are much better 🙂

26/05/2012 – a walk up the town to post a parcel or two

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

Yep, wandered up town to post a parcel or two

It’s a lovely day but very hot, so not going mad with the bikes

Took the scenic way (up Perrymount then along the high street) rather than the direct way

The manager in the Post Office was having one of THOSE days, ho hum he found that he couldn’t stamp the Proofs of Posting unless they were on the same side of his desk as the stamp – as the stamp is chained down.

He then tried to hand the parcels back to me keeping the proofs – ah well he will get there 🙂

26/05/2012 – a walk by the beach at Shoreham

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

This was a short walk to see how the cycle track was by the beach at Shoreham, we will be visiting it again for a ride to Worthing and back later this summer.

It was a lovely day and we enjoyed the stroll between the lagoon and the beach,

Was tempted to look into buying a beach hut, having seen the prices have changed mind as my wallet is sprinting for cover !

26/05/2012 – Ditchling Beacon to Mount Harry and back

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

We drove up the Beacon then rode to  Mount Harry and back, this wasan interesting ride as Iren’s bike had the grumps, however after a loose saddle and the chain deciding to go on strike we made it.

We rode down Black Cap Down and swapped bikes as Iren was having issues with the saddle, then it decided, as I changed gear’, to throw the chain 🙁

I got the chain back on and proceeded to catch Iren up, before me met some other riders who had the right size spanner – no more shifting saddle 🙂

Then Iren set off bypassing the the top of Black Cap towards Lewes, she only noticed where Mount Harry was when we were alongside.

Iren was by then feeling it as she had not done much riding recently so we turned around, as she headed for the gate out of the Down I rode (and pushed) up to Mount Harry, and the top of the Black Cap before joining her.

We then rode back to the beacon to finish off a reasonable ride.
