19/03/2012 – From work to Chertsey Bridge and back via the riverside walk

Monday, March 19th, 2012

Went for a walk today up to Chertsey Bridge (got to 1/2 way across the bridge) then strolled back through the town and then along the riverbank.

It was a lovely day so had an enjoyable walk getting some fresh air ๐Ÿ™‚

I have to say I was surprised at the distance covered – I expected more than 3.8 miles ๐Ÿ™

18/03/2012 – West Grinstead down to Bramber and back

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

This was the longest ride I have undeertaken, not helped by stupid getting lost and ending up in Steyning !

I set off early before the tracks got busy – the downside to this stragedy is that the overnight rain has left plenty of muddy puddles – I am now the greatter spotted looney ๐Ÿ™‚

The intention was to ride to where I reached before and then to turn back and ride through to Christ’s Hospital, however when I reached the descent to the farm I got nosy and went on exploring the track, however this backfired when I got to Bramber and struggled to find the way back !

Although you descend into Bramber the climb back is not too bad and I did not need to resort to pushing the bike ๐Ÿ™‚

I will say that I ached by the time I got back to west Grinstead and gave up on riding through to Southwater, I got my 20 miles so was happy.

17/03/2012 – Haywards Heath to Cuckfield and back with the long loop added too

Saturday, March 17th, 2012

Rode up Perrymount Road and had to divert round the market via Heath and Church roads before heading to Cuckfield on the A272.

Rode the loop (London Lane, High Street and Broad Street) then returned to town.

Rode along South Road before descending Oathall Road and returning home via Sydney Road and up Perrymount Road.

Not a bad ride at the 2nd attempt (it hissed down first time)

16/03/2012 – A lunchtime stroll past Abbey Chase in Chertsey

Friday, March 16th, 2012

Went for a longer walk out to Chertsey Bridge and beyond.

It was a cool day so was able to set a decent pace (3.9 miles per hour !!!)

Went about as far was worth going in that direction, so perhaps the next longer walk will be out to the bridge, then right across to the Staines Road, Carcraft etc.

15/03/2012 – Haywards Heath to Cuckfield and back

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

I took a shortish ride to Cuckfield, rode into the village centre and then returned (using the cycle paths on the way back)

A reasonable ride (ok I did push the bike to cross a couple of busy junctions) with a loop in Cuckfield and then returned with a divert past the railway station.

It’s a lovely day so this was a fun ride (although my bike having decided to change gear by itself might dispute that).

14/03/2012 – A lunchtime stroll to Abbey Chase in Chertsey

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Went for a stroll out of town heading for old father Thames, however I fell short by 1/2 mile, finding Abbey Chase rather than the thames ๐Ÿ™

So coming shortly is another visit WITH the missing 1/2 mile ๐Ÿ™‚

Unusually for me I set off armed with a camera, so sorry that the pictures are not of the Thames, but rather a tributary. http://s512.photobucket.com/home/udtrev/set/16237

I did however find an intriguing statueย  telling the story of the Curfew Bell.

12/03/2012 – A longer lunchtime stroll round Chertsey (in Reverse direction)

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Carried out this walk again, this time in the reverse direction to the walk on the 9th.

This walk is a loop of around 3 miles, I have tackled it twice in my lunchbreak andย  it takes around 3/4 hour.

it’s not a bad little hoof, including a wander by the river ๐Ÿ™‚

11/03/2012 – A ride on the Downs Link cycle path from West Grinstead past Christ’s Hospital

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

Revisited this ride, but this time with Iren and Dora,

We took on this with the aim of finding the Downs link after the road section by Christ’s Hospital

Feeling better than when this was done on the 27th I found this easier, Dora had no issues but this was a bit of a shock to poor Iren, it doubled the distance she had ridden this year !

Conditions were much improved over recent visits with less mud, although a lot of water could be seen in the nearby fields.

The track was busy but we were able to chug along quite fine making a reasonable pace, although the return trip was slower as tiredness reared it’s ugly head ๐Ÿ™

Dora enjoyed the first ride with us, and there will be more, we are looking to do the reverse trip with Iren possibly resting at the Cat and Canary whilst Dora and I explore further south .

It’s another 12 miles in the bin, and carried out on a splendid day ๐Ÿ™‚

10/03/2012 – A quick ride from Haywards Heath through Lindfield, onto Ardingly, and back

Saturday, March 10th, 2012

Yep, I’ve upped the distance and boy do I feel it !

I had no problem reaching Lindfield but boy are there some STEEP hills between Lindfield and Ardingly ๐Ÿ™

Those hills are fine forย  coming down (I don’t recall the bike ever doing @29 mph before) ๐Ÿ™‚ but killers going up ๐Ÿ™

My legs now know what running out of steam means ๐Ÿ™ but still completed the ride ๐Ÿ™‚

Great views but the hills mean’t that I was pushing it to the max for me.

09/03/2012 – A longer lunchtime stroll round Chertsey

Friday, March 9th, 2012

Went for a longer walk this lunchtime ound the town in Chertsey, finishing up walking by the river.

I started off in Eastworth Road, turned into Fordwater Road, which becomes Wier Road.

When I reached Bridge Road Iย  turned left and walked along the road as it changed names to London Street, windsor Street and Staines Lane.

Then I joined St Annes Road to walk through to Carcraft, then turned left to walk back via the river.

3 miles in 46 minutes was a decent stroll ๐Ÿ™‚
