06/07/2011 – Wolstonbury, the Chattri, the Beacon and back to Clayton

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Yep, had another crack at the big one, this time with Dave for support.

The weather was trying to make it’s mind up when we set off, armed with raincoats which we struggled to make our minds up if we were going to wear – put the coat on the rain stopped, remove the coat and the drips started falling again.

The wind was howling, which whilst it kept you cool, was a hindrance and eventually killed off this attempt too 🙁

Once we had completed Wolstonbury the rain stopped, we went down to the Chattri with the wind in our faces, and returned with wind assistance. There were large quantities of crows in the nearby fields and we were treated to the kind of flying display that starlings normally do.

As we walked to the Beacon we had the wind coming in from the side and partially from the back, we both realised that coming back would be partially into the wind and neither of us fancied 5 miles of that so we drew the line at the Beacon and returned.

By the time we got back to the car the temperature had risen enough for shirt sleeves, and only felt cool when the clouds and wind decided to play.

Surprisingly this walk was within 3 minutes of the previous attempt.

The full walk will be successfully carried out, shame we couldn’t do it this time

05/07/2011 – Arlington Reservoir

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

This was a little amble for Dave’s benefit as he had not been here,

A gentle stroll round the reservoir where we were treated to the sight of swifts / swallows dancing over the water feeding on the wing.

It was a cracking hot day and we took it easy.
